India announces T20I squad for Afghanistan series

The BCCI has announced a 15-member Indian squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, scheduled for September 13, 15, and 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Shreyas Iyer will captain the side, with Tilak Varma serving as vice-captain.

The squad features the return of several senior players, most notably wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. However, the availability of Bumrah, along with Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Harshit Rana, remains subject to official fitness clearance from the Centre of Excellence.

In contrast, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been omitted from the squad following reports of a fresh leg injury during his rehabilitation. The selection also marks a significant reset from the previous Zimbabwe tour, with eight players—including Rinku Singh and Prabhsimran Singh—left out of the lineup. The squad is intended to serve as a core group for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan.
