India cricket team criticised over bowling as Dinesh Karthik selects ODI XI

Former Indian wicket‑keeper Dinesh Karthik publicly criticised Team India’s bowling strategy after the side’s 56‑run loss in the fifth T20I against England at the Rose Bowl, Southampton. Karthik highlighted the lack of a genuine fifth bowler, noting that Shivam Dube’s only over in the match went for 22 runs and the team gave away 17 sixes and multiple 20‑plus run overs. The criticism follows a 0‑4 series whitewash in the T20I leg of the tour.

Ahead of the first ODI at Edgbaston on 14 July, Karthik announced his selected playing XI. He opted for three specialist pacers – Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Prince Yadav – and two spin options, while retaining Shivam Dube as a pace‑all‑rounder at number 6. The lineup omitted recent Purple Cap winner Prasidh Krishna and other regular bowlers such as Gurnoor Brar and Washington Sundar. The selections aim to address the bowling deficiencies highlighted after the T20I defeats, as India seeks to reverse a winless white‑ball tour of England and Ireland.
