India cricket team mixes youth and experience ahead of England tour

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri said the new‑look side has an ideal blend of youth and experience as it prepares for the 2026 white‑ball tour of England. He highlighted T20 captain Shreyas Iyer and vice‑captain Tilak Varma, and praised emerging players such as Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ravi Bishnoi, Prasidh Krishna, Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Ishan Kishan, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Shivam Dube, Prince Yadav and teenage talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

Shastri also noted that the ODI squad sees the return of senior stars Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, with Bumrah leading a pace attack that includes Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana and Gurnoor Brar. Former batting great Sunil Gavaskar echoed the optimism, saying the tour offers a chance for the next generation to shine alongside established players.

The comments come as India prepares to face England in both T20 and ODI formats, with expectations of strong performances in challenging English conditions.
