India cricket team wears black armbands in T20 tribute to Zimbabwe vice‑president

During the second T20 match of the India‑Zimbabwe series, players from both sides took the field wearing black armbands to honour the sudden death of Zimbabwe Cricket vice‑president Silvester Matsheka. The gesture followed his passing a day earlier and was accompanied by a moment of silence. India went on to win the match, taking a 2‑0 lead in the series.

After completing a 3‑0 sweep of Zimbabwe, India’s next commitment is a two‑match Test series in Sri Lanka scheduled for August. Five senior Indian players – Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Sai Sudharsan, Harshit Rana and Nitis Kumar Reddy – are unavailable due to fitness concerns, opening opportunities for a younger squad that will be announced on 28 July. The series, part of the World Test Championship, is seen as a crucial overseas challenge for the side.
