India customs seize hidden gold at Ahmedabad and Delhi airports

Customs officials in India intercepted two separate gold‑smuggling attempts at major airports. At Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, a woman arriving from Dubai concealed about 270 g of gold paste inside her body. After a detailed examination the paste was processed into a 24‑carat gold bar weighing 244.16 g, valued at roughly ₹35.8 million. Earlier, similar seizures of gold hidden in clothing and undergarments had been reported at the same airport.

At Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, a male passenger arriving from Jakarta was stopped after Air Intelligence Unit officers noted suspicious behavior despite a clean X‑ray scan. He confessed to swallowing three gold‑filled capsules totaling 744 g, which were later recovered and sent for extraction. Both incidents are under investigation by the Air Intelligence Unit and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.
