India defeats Sri Lanka by 165 runs in Galle Test

India secured a 165-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The win was driven by standout performances from emerging players, signaling a potential transition in the Indian Test squad. Devdutt Padikkal scored a career-best 167 in the first innings, while spinner Manav Suthar claimed a match-winning 10-wicket haul in only his second Test.

Sri Lanka faces significant challenges heading into the second Test in Colombo. The team is dealing with several injuries, including Kusal Mendis, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury, and Dinesh Chandimal, who is unavailable due to neck and shoulder issues. Pathum Nissanka also remains a doubt. Former Sri Lankan cricketer Russell Arnold noted that the hosts may struggle to balance their lineup if they attempt to add more specialist spinners to counter India's dominance.

India's victory also highlighted the effectiveness of their preparation, with Suthar crediting early arrival in the country and practice with the Kookaburra ball for his success. The result continues India's dominant trend against Sri Lanka, as they remain undefeated in their last 11 Test encounters.
