India direct tax collections rise 13% to Rs 12.12 lakh crore
India’s net direct tax collections rose approximately 13% to Rs 12.12 lakh crore for the first half of the 2026-27 financial year, as of September 17. This growth was driven largely by an increase in advance tax payments, which grew 16.18% to Rs 5.22 lakh crore.
Corporate advance tax collections saw a significant rise of 18.09%, reaching Rs 4.16 lakh crore, while non-corporate advance tax increased by 9.24% to Rs 1.06 lakh crore. Gross direct tax collections reached Rs 14.32 lakh crore, a 15.19% increase compared to the same period last year.
While collections grew, tax refunds also saw a substantial rise of 29.19%, totaling Rs 2.20 lakh crore. Within the net collections, corporate tax contributed Rs 5.56 lakh crore, and non-corporate tax contributed Rs 6.16 lakh crore. Additionally, Securities Transaction Tax (STT) collections experienced sharp growth, rising 53% to reach Rs 40,214 crore.
