India domestic air traffic falls 6.34% in August

India’s domestic air passenger traffic declined by 6.34 per cent year-on-year in August, falling to 1.21 crore passengers, according to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The market share for major airlines shifted during the month. IndiGo remains the dominant carrier with a 65 per cent market share, despite a decrease from 67.4 per cent in July. The Air India Group saw an increase, rising to 26.7 per cent from 24 per cent in the previous month. Akasa Air maintained a 5.5 per cent share, while SpiceJet’s market share fell to 1.2 per cent.

In terms of operational efficiency, IndiGo reported the highest on-time performance at approximately 91 per cent, followed by Akasa Air at 90.5 per cent and the Air India Group at 83.9 per cent. Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the DGCA is monitoring SpiceJet’s financial and operational status to ensure aviation safety is not compromised.
