India domestic aviation passenger traffic declines in July

India’s domestic aviation market experienced an unexpected decline in passenger traffic in July 2026. Data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) shows that domestic airlines carried approximately 12 million passengers, a 4.8% decrease compared to the 12.6 million passengers carried in July of the previous year.

Despite the monthly dip, the broader trend for the first seven months of 2026 remains positive. Total passengers reached 98.4 million, representing a 0.64% increase over the 97.78 million recorded during the same period last year.

Analysts suggest the July decline may be attributed to seasonal disruptions rather than a structural reversal in growth. Factors such as the monsoon season, which brings heavy rainfall and reduced visibility, often impact flight schedules and passenger travel plans in the region.
