India dominates Under‑23 Asian Wrestling Championships in Da Nang
India's wrestlers emerged as champions at the Under‑23 Asian Wrestling Championships held in Da Nang, Vietnam, securing a record total of 27 medals. The men's freestyle team topped the medal table with four gold, three silver and two bronze medals, while the women's team earned six gold, one silver and three bronze. In Greco‑Roman, Indian athletes added one gold, three silver and four bronze. Overall the squad collected 11 gold, 7 silver and 9 bronze medals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the performance on his X account, stating, “हमारे पहलवानों का शानदार प्रदर्शन… हमारी पुरुषों की फ्रीस्टाइल और महिलाओं की कुश्ती टीमों ने … टीम खिताब जीते।” Wrestling Federation of India president Sanjay Singh called the trophy “एक बड़ी कामयाबी” and highlighted the athletes’ technical improvement over regional rivals.
The win concludes the junior continental campaign, with the Under‑17 Asian Wrestling Championships scheduled to begin in Da Nang the following day.
