India donates 12 agricultural drones to Fiji

India has donated 12 agricultural drones to Fiji to modernize farming practices and support the sugarcane industry. The technology is intended to help farmers monitor crops more effectively and apply agricultural inputs, such as fertilizers, with greater efficiency.

Indian High Commissioner to Fiji Suneet Mehta noted that this donation is part of a broader history of agricultural cooperation between the two nations. Previous support has included the provision of seeds, mobile soil-testing laboratories, financial assistance, and capacity-building programs.

Fijian Agriculture Minister Tomasi Tunabuna received the equipment, stating that the Ministry of Agriculture and the Fiji Sugar Corporation will jointly oversee the deployment. The initiative will include training for personnel and farmers to ensure the drones are used safely and effectively to improve long-term agricultural productivity.
