India e-way bill generation rises 7.7% in August
E-way bill generation in India increased by 7.7 per cent year-on-year in August, reaching 139.08 million. This represents the third-highest monthly level on record, signaling momentum in goods movement and formal economic activity.
Under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, an e-way bill is required for moving goods valued at more than Rs 50,000. While August figures showed a marginal month-on-month decline of 0.51 per cent from July's 139.79 million, the volume remains among the highest ever recorded.
Analysts suggest the upward trend reflects economic resilience, driven by improved compliance, the formalization of business activities, and steady consumption demand. This data aligns with recent reports showing private final consumption expenditure grew by 7.1 per cent in the first quarter of FY27.
