India economic growth outlook remains strong according to WEF survey
A recent survey by the World Economic Forum (WEF) indicates strong confidence in India's economic trajectory, with 98 percent of surveyed economists predicting moderate or better growth over the next 12 months. Notably, 74 percent of respondents expect strong or very strong growth, a significant increase from 52 percent recorded in May.
The WEF previously raised India's growth forecast for fiscal year 2026-27 to 6.7 percent in August, citing sustained strength in domestic demand. While high energy prices remain a potential pressure point, inflation expectations have softened compared to earlier in the year. Currently, 55 percent of economists anticipate moderate inflation, while 45 percent expect higher inflation.
Regarding policy, 67 percent of respondents expect no changes to monetary policy, and 72 percent anticipate stability in fiscal policy. Despite the positive growth outlook, the report notes that stock market performance has been less robust, with the Nifty 50 seeing a decline of 7.9 percent since the start of the year.
