India Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Resigns Over Maharashtra Exam Scam
The Indian National Congress said the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan marks only the first step in addressing a deep rot in the country’s education system. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted a scandal involving alleged managed exam centres for the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MH‑CET) at premier engineering institutes, noting a three‑year mismatch between MH‑CET results and class‑12 board scores.
Ramesh criticised proposals for fast‑track courts to handle paper‑leak cases, calling them insufficient and disrespectful to the “lakhs of youth” who have been protesting the issue for months. The party urged a broader introspection of coaching practices and school‑based education.
