India election chief declares voter roll among world's most accurate

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar inaugurated the 2nd National Conference of Counsels representing the Election Commission of India in New Delhi. The one‑day event brought together advocates, senior officials and CEOs to discuss legal challenges, share experiences and strengthen the Commission’s legal framework. Sessions covered electoral roll management, Special Intensive Revision (SIR), polling procedures and technology initiatives such as ECINET.

Kumar emphasized that the ECI is building “one of the most accurate electoral rolls in the entire world,” proactively adding all citizens aged 18 while removing deceased, duplicate, absent, shifted and foreign electors. He highlighted the scale of the SIR exercise, overseen by more than 15 lakh booth‑level agents and 11 lakh officers, and noted its success under intense political and judicial scrutiny. The chief urged voters to cooperate by providing current photographs and supporting the revision process.
