India expands and updates voter rolls under Special Intensive Revision
The Election Commission of India is conducting a nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across multiple states. In Haryana, the first phase of SIR was completed and a draft voter list will be published on July 31, with the final roll due on October 3. Delhi’s schedule was revised, moving the draft roll publication to August 17 and the final roll to October 19. Maharashtra extended its SIR deadline to August 8 due to monsoon disruptions and also reported 87.79% distribution and 60.44% digitisation of enumeration forms.
In Telangana, the voter list in Hyderabad is expected to shrink as about 27.7 lakh electors were flagged under the ASDD (Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate) categories, including 1.38 lakh untraceable entries. Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati district identified roughly 2.88 lakh uncollectable voters, many due to death, migration or duplication. Hyderabad officials noted that many urban voters are choosing to retain registration in their native villages, complicating form collection and digitisation targets. Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district achieved 100 % digitisation of enumeration forms for all five assembly constituencies.
