India: Election officials accelerate voter list updates across multiple states
Election authorities in several Indian states are intensifying efforts to update voter rolls through Special Intensive Revision (SIR) processes.
In Jharkhand, Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar has directed district officials to expedite the inclusion of eligible citizens and ensure lists are error-free. Current data shows 22,101,249 voters registered across 31,892 polling stations. While 859,162 Form-6 applications have been received, representing a 3.89% increase, officials noted this falls below the expected 8% growth rate. Efforts are being made to engage youth through colleges and universities.
In Delhi, officials reported that over 100,000 Form-6 applications have been processed out of 456,913 received since the draft voter list was published on August 31. The verification and updating process is nearing its final stages, with the final voter list scheduled for publication on December 4.
In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, special registration camps are being organized at all 3,770 polling booths on October 24. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be available from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM to assist new voters and first-time registrants. The final publication of the electoral roll in this region is set for January 4, 2027.
