India emerges as a global hub for tractor manufacturing

India is rapidly evolving into a global manufacturing and export hub for agricultural tractors. While the country has long been the world's largest market for tractor sales by volume, it is now shifting its focus from meeting domestic demand to aggressive international expansion.

Driven by the government's ‘Make in India’ initiative and significant private investment in infrastructure, local manufacturers such as Mahindra & Mahindra, TAFE, and the Escorts Kubota joint venture are expanding into markets across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Additionally, international corporations like John Deere and CNH Industrial are increasingly utilizing Indian facilities for production. This shift is partly motivated by rising energy costs, wage pressures, and logistical challenges in Europe and North America, leading global players to move the production of small and medium-sized machinery to India.
