India emerges as global automotive engineering outsourcing hub
India is emerging as a global hub for automotive engineering outsourcing (ESO). The country has attracted nearly US$ 40 billion in foreign direct investment in this sector in recent years.
Major global manufacturers, including Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Skoda, Stellantis, Renault-Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, and the Chinese firm BYD, are utilizing India to optimize costs. While developing a new platform can cost between US$ 1.5 billion and US$ 3 billion for traditional European groups, leveraging India's labor and compliance advantages can reduce these investments to between US$ 400 million and US$ 800 million.
This strategic shift is driven by the maturation of India as the world's third-largest automotive market, following China and the United States. Manufacturers are redirecting strategies toward the region to reduce costs and accelerate development processes.
