India employers report high rates of identity fraud in hiring
A survey commissioned by HireRight reveals that 74 per cent of Indian HR and recruitment decision-makers uncovered identity fraud among candidates or employees in 2025. This figure represents the highest proportion among the global markets surveyed. The findings suggest a growing need for workforce trust and background screening as businesses increasingly adopt artificial intelligence in recruitment processes.
India also leads in AI adoption within HR teams and shows high acceptance of candidates using AI during the hiring process. While 52 per cent of Indian employers expect AI to drive additional hiring for new technical skills, challenges remain. Key hurdles include finding qualified talent, attracting candidates for full-time or hybrid roles, and integrating AI technologies into existing recruitment workflows.
Concurrently, talent acquisition is evolving from a support function into a core business strategy. As companies compete for specialized professionals, recruitment is becoming deeply integrated with business planning, influencing organizational growth and market entry capabilities.
