India ends Operation Amistad relief mission in earthquake‑hit Venezuela

India’s humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) mission, dubbed Operation Amistad, wrapped up on July 10 after a two‑month deployment to northern Venezuela following twin earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5. A 41‑member medical team from the Indian Army’s 60 Para Field Hospital Unit, supported by two BHISHM modular mini‑hospitals, arrived on June 26 aboard two Indian Air Force C‑17 aircraft.

During the operation the field hospital performed more than 8,000 medical procedures, including over 20 major surgeries, for hundreds of quake survivors. The mission also delivered six tonnes of medicines and equipment and 30 tonnes of relief supplies such as tents, solar lamps, water purifiers and generators. Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the assistance, and both governments highlighted the operation as a sign of enduring friendship and the principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – the world as one family.
