India energy sector faces rising demand from AI and solar expansion
India is experiencing a significant shift in its energy landscape, driven by the rapid expansion of data centers and renewable energy infrastructure. The artificial intelligence revolution is projected to drive data center electricity demand toward 191 TWh, creating a need for continuous, high-density, 24/7 power loads that challenge traditional grid forecasting and transmission infrastructure.
To address these structural shifts and climate-induced volatility, experts suggest a pivot toward distributed renewable energy (DRE), localized smart grids, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) rather than relying solely on centralized fossil-fuel baseloads.
In the corporate sector, Amber Enterprises' subsidiary, IL JIN Electronics (India) Ltd, is set to acquire full control of Power-One Micro Systems through a ₹176 crore share-swap deal. This move aligns with growing demand for power electronics, including inverters and battery storage, fueled by India’s push toward rooftop solar, electric vehicles, and data centers.
