India engineers focus on AI and technological sovereignty

On National Engineers’ Day, industry leaders in India reflected on the evolving role of engineering in an era defined by artificial intelligence and digital transformation. Experts noted that while AI can accelerate technical tasks like coding and circuit design, human judgment remains essential for determining which problems are worth solving and taking responsibility for technological outcomes.

Discussions also highlighted India’s shift toward technological sovereignty. While Indian engineers have historically contributed to global cloud platforms, there is a growing movement to build the underlying computational substrate—including control planes and identity systems—within Indian jurisdiction. This shift is driven by domestic regulatory frameworks such as the DPDP Act and various localization directives, aiming to move infrastructure decisions from simple procurement to intentional design.
