India EPFO Allows Online PF Nominee Updates via e‑Nomination and Virtual ID

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) permits members to add or modify nominees for their PF, EPS and EDLI accounts through an online e‑nomination process. Using a verified Universal Account Number (UAN), members can enter nominee details – Aadhaar number, name, gender, date of birth, relationship, address and photo – and complete the submission with an e‑signature. A 16‑digit Virtual ID (VID) can be generated on the UIDAI portal as an alternative to sharing the Aadhaar number.

Members may also submit nominee changes offline by filing Form‑2 at an EPFO office. Multiple nominees are allowed provided their combined share equals 100 %. Spouses and children are mandatory nominees for married members, while other relatives can be added under specific conditions. EPFO advises prompt updates after marriages, births or deaths to avoid delays in benefit disbursement.
