India ethanol supply reaches 895 crore litres
India has supplied 895 crore litres of ethanol under the Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2025-26 as of the end of August, according to data from the All India Distillers Association (AIDA). This figure represents approximately 85 percent of the 1,048 crore litres contracted for this period.
Grain-based feedstock accounted for roughly 70 percent of the total supply, contributing 624 crore litres. Maize emerged as the largest contributor within this category, providing 345 crore litres. Additionally, 214 crore litres were produced from surplus rice sourced from the Food Corporation of India (FCI), and 64 crore litres came from damaged food grains.
Sugar-based sources provided the remaining 271 crore litres. Within this segment, sugarcane juice contributed 149 crore litres, while B-heavy molasses provided 107 crore litres and C-heavy molasses provided 15 crore litres. AIDA noted that the increasing diversification of feedstock reduces reliance on any single raw material, enhancing supply chain resilience and energy security.
