India evacuates 2,557 citizens from Iran via Armenia and Azerbaijan

The Ministry of External Affairs announced that 2,557 Indian nationals were moved out of Iran through Armenia and Azerbaijan after hostilities escalated in West Asia. The Indian Embassy in Tehran coordinated the cross‑border transfers and provided a 24‑hour helpline and email service for citizens in distress.

Around 7,000 Indians – including seminary and medical students, workers, seafarers and fishermen – remain in Iran. The government has issued travel advisories urging those still in the country to consider temporary exit via available flights and has asked prospective travellers to postpone trips until conditions improve. New Delhi continues diplomatic engagement with regional partners, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar discussing the crisis and urging dialogue for a peaceful solution.
