India evaluates Russian and South Korean air defense systems

The Indian Army is evaluating various air defense solutions to counter low-altitude unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) threats. Russian state-owned conglomerate Rostec has offered the TKB-1167 ‘Bizon’ anti-drone system. The Bizon features a combat module with four 7.62mm PKT machine guns capable of 3,200 rounds per minute and utilizes advanced ammunition with remote-controlled fuzes for airburst capabilities.

Simultaneously, South Korea is discussing the potential export of the Biho Hybrid air defense system to India. During a joint commission meeting in New Delhi, officials from South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) and India’s defense ministry discussed the Hanwha Aerospace-built system. The Biho, which combines twin 30mm automatic cannons with short-range surface-to-air missiles, previously emerged as a qualifying platform in Indian trials. The potential acquisition of 104 Biho systems is estimated at approximately $2.5 billion.
