India expands AI and MedTech collaborations across health sectors
The Indian government is rolling out multiple initiatives to boost artificial intelligence and medical‑technology development. Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda will address the India Medical Device 2026 conference on 8 August 2026, where the two‑day event will focus on self‑reliant MedTech, localisation of component manufacturing, AI‑enabled devices and software as a medical device.
The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar and the Indian AI Research Organisation have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly pursue AI research, education and talent development, including shared projects, grant applications and infrastructure building.
The Ministry of Ayush has partnered with IndiaAI, integrating the AIKosh platform to share health‑research datasets, AI models and tools, aiming to accelerate AI‑driven innovation in traditional medicine, medicinal‑plant studies and drug administration.
Invest India and the Asia‑Pacific Medical Technology Association (APACMed) have also signed an MoU to strengthen domestic MedTech manufacturing, increase local value addition to 40‑45 % and improve the ease of doing business for Indian manufacturers.
Separately, digital‑health firm MediBuddy, together with the Confederation of Indian Industry, released a workplace‑health AI report showing that employees who undergo regular health check‑ups have a hospitalisation rate of 2.41 % versus 7.27 % for those who do not, highlighting the cost impact of preventive care.
