India expands Foreigners Regional Registration Office network

The Indian Union Home Ministry has notified three new Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRRO) in Kohima, Agartala, and Bhubaneswar. This expansion brings the total number of FRROs in the country to 20.

Following directives from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the government aims to establish an FRRO in every state capital by 2027. The initiative is intended to facilitate the growing number of foreign nationals visiting India for tourism, medical treatment, and education, while simultaneously strengthening immigration monitoring and security enforcement.

The new offices in Kohima and Agartala will transition from the jurisdiction of the Kolkata FRRO, while the Bhubaneswar office will move from the jurisdiction of the Hyderabad FRRO. These offices are responsible for monitoring compliance with immigration laws, managing visa violations, and providing essential services to foreign nationals.
