India expands low‑cost mobile filing for Income Tax Returns
The Indian Income Tax Department is increasing scrutiny of returns using AI and data analytics, prompting taxpayers to avoid common filing errors such as incorrect deductions, wrong ITR forms, and mismatched personal details. To help meet the July 31 deadline, fintech platforms PhonePe and Jio Finance have launched mobile services that allow users to file their ITRs directly through their apps. The basic unassisted filing plan starts at Rs 24, with higher‑priced options for complex cases that include expert assistance. The services also support GST returns and cater to salaried individuals, professionals, and business owners with income from capital gains, cryptocurrency, foreign sources, or futures and options trading.
