India experiences economic resurgence and rising innovation
India is experiencing a significant economic resurgence, maintaining real GDP growth above 7% for the past three years. In the April-June 2026 period, growth reached 7.8%, driven by a 9.2% increase in manufacturing, 10% in services, and 3.6% in agriculture. This trajectory positions the nation as one of the world's fastest-growing major economies and a potential candidate for the world's third-largest economy.
Parallel to economic expansion, India has seen a rise in global innovation rankings, moving from 81st place in 2015 to 38th in the 2025 Global Innovation Index. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has recognized India as a long-term innovation overperformer for 15 consecutive years. However, challenges remain in building a pipeline of globally leading innovators; while the Tata Group entered the BCG Top 50 list in 2023, India has historically struggled to match the volume of top-tier firms seen in the US and China.
Geopolitically, India is utilizing its economic strength to practice strategic flexibility. By diversifying partnerships with the United States, European Union, Japan, and Australia while maintaining ties with Russia and the Gulf, the country is shifting toward a model of prosperity built on exchange and strategic autonomy.
