India Extends GST Appeal Deadline, Marks 10‑Year GST Milestone
The Ministry of Finance announced that the deadline for filing appeals with the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) has been extended to 31 July 2026. The extension was made to address technical problems caused by a surge in portal traffic, with about 30,000 appeals lodged in the previous 15 days and daily peaks of up to 5,500 filings.
July 1 marked the ten‑year anniversary of GST, described as the largest post‑independence tax reform. A Deloitte survey found that more than 99 % of Indian businesses view the regime positively. The government outlined plans for “GST 2.0,” which will introduce AI‑driven compliance, predictive analytics and an integrated digital framework. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said rate rationalisation under GST 2.0 will boost purchasing power and simplify business operations.
