India extends GST Appellate Tribunal appeal deadline to July 31, 2026
The Indian Ministry of Finance announced that the deadline for filing appeals before the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) has been moved from 30 June 2026 to 31 July 2026. The change was made after stakeholders highlighted technical problems caused by a surge of roughly 30,000 appeals filed in the previous 15 days, with daily peaks of about 5,500 submissions that strained the online portal. The extension applies to appeals under Section 112(1)‑(3) of the Central GST Act and to applications for orders issued before 1 February 2026. Taxpayers were urged to file early to avoid another last‑minute overload. GSTAT now has 31 state benches and a principal bench in Delhi, with over 4.8 lakh cases pending. The move aims to ensure smoother dispute resolution as the tribunal becomes fully operational.
