India faces political unrest amid youth protests and Modi celebrations
India is facing significant political unrest as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a youth-led movement founded by graduate student Abhijeet Dipke, gains national momentum. Originally emerging as an internet satire, the movement has transitioned into a formal protest group targeting corruption, youth unemployment, and educational irregularities. The CJP's activism recently contributed to the resignation of the Minister of Education.
The movement is currently focused on questioning electoral transparency following a review of voter registries that resulted in the removal of approximately 130 million names. While the Election Commission maintains this is a standard procedure to remove deceased citizens or those who have moved, protesters view it as a systemic issue.
Simultaneously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration is conducting nationwide celebrations marking his 25 years in government and his 76th birthday. Critics and opposition parties have described these festivities, organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as an excessive cult of personality. Reports indicate that state resources and educational institutions have been involved in the celebrations, drawing criticism from opposition groups like the Indian National Congress.
