India: Fact checks debunk viral videos targeting PM Modi

Multiple misleading videos involving Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been identified circulating on social media.

One viral video claims to show a crowd raising anti-Modi slogans at the Rajiv Chowk Metro station in Delhi during Independence Day on August 15, 2026. However, the footage actually depicts protesters during the NEET protests in July 2026, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of the Union Education Minister.

Another video alleges that Prime Minister Modi disrespected the National Anthem by walking while it was being played. Investigations reveal this video is an edited version of footage from an event in Siwan, Bihar, originally filmed in June 2025. In the authentic footage, the National Anthem was not playing during the Prime Minister's entrance; instead, the audio was manipulated to include the anthem over the clip.
