India targets manufacturing growth and global talent expansion
India is undergoing significant structural shifts in its labor market and industrial strategy. NITI Aayog has identified chemicals, textiles, telecom/networking equipment, and solar photovoltaic manufacturing as four key sectors to drive the nation's ambition of becoming a global manufacturing hub.
In the employment sector, festive season hiring for 2026 is projected to rise by 15–20%, particularly in e-commerce, quick commerce, and logistics. While traditional IT sectors face a dip, specialized AI, technology, and manufacturing roles are seeing increased demand. Furthermore, 75% of employers express intent to hire freshers in the latter half of 2026.
Corporate expansion is also moving internationally, with 77% of Indian companies planning to increase overseas hiring to access specialized talent and proximity to customers. Meanwhile, nearly 90% of leaders at India’s Global Capability Centres (GCCs) remain confident in maintaining global leadership through 2030, despite significant challenges in AI literacy and the need for large-scale workforce reskilling.
