India files FIRs over morphed videos and offensive chants targeting PM Narendra Modi

Maharashtra cyber police have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against an unknown individual for circulating morphed videos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Piyush Goyal. The complaint, filed by a BJP social‑media officer, alleges that the videos were digitally altered using artificial intelligence to portray offensive statements, including a claim that Goyal suggested publicly hanging protestors. The FIR cites multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act.

Separately, Delhi police filed a zero‑FIR against a woman, identified as Ruchika Singh, for shouting highly offensive and indecent slogans against Prime Minister Modi during a protest at Jantar Mantar. The case was registered under sections 352, 353(1) and 356(1) of the Indian Penal Code. Both investigations reflect heightened enforcement actions against content deemed disrespectful to the country's highest constitutional offices.
