India's Defence Secretary Announces Brahmos Missile Export Deals with Vietnam and Indonesia
At the Shangri‑La Dialogue in Singapore, Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh said India has signed a deal to export its Brahmos supersonic cruise missile system to Vietnam and that an agreement with Indonesia is in its final stage. The Vietnam contract, reportedly worth around 60 billion rupees, follows the Philippines’ earlier purchase of Brahmos missiles and underscores India’s push to become a major defence exporter to ASEAN partners. Singh also highlighted broader defence cooperation, noting recent meetings with US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and US Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, where both sides reaffirmed commitments to deepen security ties and counter China’s growing influence in the Indo‑Pacific.
The Brahmos system, jointly developed by India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Machinery‑Stroyenia, can travel at Mach 2.8‑3 and strike targets at ranges of 290‑800 km. Its export is seen as a milestone for India’s defence industry, with expectations that sales could boost domestic manufacturing, create jobs and increase annual defence export revenue toward the government’s 2025 target of 50,000 crore rupees.
