India Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says country remains among fastest‑growing major economies

At a virtual “Global Convergence for Growth Summit”, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said India continues to rank among the world’s fastest‑growing major economies, projecting about 7 % GDP growth over the medium term.

She attributed the growth to domestic‑demand momentum, a market‑determined exchange rate and ongoing reforms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sitharaman urged coordinated global action, stronger multilateral cooperation and more effective Multilateral Development Banks to support developing nations.

The summit, chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron, brought together leaders from the G7, Brazil, China, Kenya, South Korea and the IMF to discuss balanced growth, global imbalances and the need for resilient, diversified supply chains, especially for critical minerals.
