India food market shifts due to Gen Z and GLP-1 trends
India is undergoing a significant transformation in its food and beverage landscape, driven by a massive young population and changing health-related consumption patterns. Nestlé CEO Philipp Navratil noted that India is becoming a global hub for innovation, fueled by nearly 377 million Gen Z consumers who demand greater transparency, authenticity, and speed.
Simultaneously, new research from IFF highlights how the use of GLP-1 medications is reshaping eating behaviors in major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The study, titled ‘Inside the India GLP-1 Consumer Journey,’ found that while users are consuming smaller portions, they are becoming more deliberate about nutrition and ingredient quality. Key findings indicate that 74% of GLP-1 users read food labels more carefully, and many are prioritizing taste and sensory satisfaction despite reduced appetites.
