India fuel prices remain stable despite rising global crude oil costs
Fuel prices for petrol and diesel in major Indian cities remained stable on August 23, 2026, despite significant volatility in the international crude oil market. Government oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL), have not adjusted retail rates in response to rising global costs.
International crude oil prices have seen an upward trend, with Brent crude trading at approximately 94.39 USD per barrel and WTI crude at around 87.06 USD per barrel. This surge is attributed to geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran, as well as uncertainties regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
In major metropolitan areas, petrol prices in Delhi are 102.12 INR per liter, while in Hyderabad, they reach 115.69 INR per liter. Diesel rates in Delhi are 95.20 INR per liter, whereas Chandigarh offers some of the lower rates, with diesel at 86.09 INR per liter.
