India fuel prices show regional variation as windfall tax is removed

Fuel prices in India remain subject to regional variations, with petrol and diesel rates updated daily by oil marketing companies. In New Delhi, petrol is priced at ₹102.12 per litre and diesel at ₹95.20 per litre.

Regional pricing shows significant differences across major cities. In Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow reports petrol at ₹102.31 and diesel at ₹95.79, while Prayagraj sees petrol at ₹103.10. Other notable rates include Hyderabad, where petrol reaches ₹115.43, and Jaipur at ₹113.19. In the NCR region, Noida maintains petrol prices of ₹101.96.

In a recent policy shift, the government has eliminated the windfall tax on petrol exports, reducing the rate from ₹3.5 per litre to zero as of August 14. This tax was previously implemented to prevent companies from prioritizing foreign sales over domestic supply during periods of high profitability. The government continues to review these tax measures every 15 days based on global crude oil market conditions.
