India hockey teams show contrasting results at World Cup

The Indian national hockey teams experienced contrasting fortunes during the Hockey World Cup. The women’s team showed significant progress under coach Sjoerd Marijne, demonstrating improved defensive stability and resilience. Despite failing to reach the semi-finals, the women’s squad secured competitive results, including draws against China, England, and Australia, with their only loss coming against the Netherlands.

In contrast, the men’s team struggled with consistency and pressure. Following a 5-3 defeat against Argentina, the men finished at the bottom of their group. They are now set to play Belgium in a play-off for seventh position. Captain Harmanpreet Singh noted that the team has struggled with playing well only in patches, failing to meet mathematical possibilities for semi-final qualification.
