India's three state assembly by‑elections on July 30

By‑elections are scheduled for Thursday, 30 July 2024 in three Indian states. The vacant seats are Banikpur in Bihar, Datiya in Madhya Pradesh and Manjalpur in Gujarat. Results are expected on 3 August.

Banikpur became vacant after BJP national president Nitin Novell resigned from the assembly. Candidates include BJP’s Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishore and RJD’s Rekha Gupta. Datiya is open following the disqualification of former Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti after a fraud conviction; the main contest is between BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari and Congress’s Ghanashyam Singh. Manjalpur is vacant after the death of BJP MLA Yogeshbhai Naranidas Patel, with BJP fielding Satish Patel and Congress nominating Bikhabhai Rabari.

The Election Commission will use electronic voting machines and VVPAT devices at all polling stations. Security arrangements include deployment of central paramilitary forces, with 14 companies and additional police and home‑guard personnel in Banikpur and comparable measures in the other constituencies.
