India implements National Common Mobility Card for transport services

The transition to the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) is causing operational changes and commuter challenges across different Indian transport sectors.

In Maharashtra, the State Road Transport Corporation (ST) has made the NCMC card mandatory for senior citizens and women seeking advance discounted tickets. This policy, effective from October 24, applies to bookings made through reservation centers, official websites, and mobile applications. Authorities have instructed depot managers to strictly enforce this rule while using staff to raise public awareness.

In Bengaluru, commuters using the Namma Metro are facing difficulties transitioning from traditional smart cards to the NCMC system. Users have reported being unable to transfer existing balances or obtain refunds for remaining funds on their old cards. Additionally, strict minimum balance requirements have made it difficult for passengers to utilize small leftover amounts, often forcing them to perform extra recharges. BMRCL officials have stated they are looking into the matter to find a solution.
