Saransh Jain, 33, Named in India's Test Squad for Sri Lanka Series

India’s 33‑year‑old off‑spinning all‑rounder Saransh Jain has been included in the 15‑member squad for the two‑Test series against Sri Lanka, stepping in for the injured Washington Sundar. His selection follows strong performances in the Ranji Trophy season and on the recent India A tour of Sri Lanka, and he could become the first player since Robin Singh to debut for India after the age of 33.

Jain, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, highlighted his admiration for spin legends Harbhajan Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin, noting that Singh gave him personal advice at a BCCI Centre of Excellence camp. He also described his father, former MP off‑spinner Subodh Jain, as his ultimate idol and source of support throughout his career. In the 2025‑26 domestic season he recorded eight wickets and a first‑innings century in the Duleep Trophy final, bringing his first‑class record to 2,223 runs at 31.75 and 188 wickets at 27.30.
