Assam Begins Census 2027 Self-Enumeration on August 2
The Directorate of Census Operations announced that self‑enumeration for Census 2027 will start across Assam on 2 August, allowing residents to submit their details online via the census portal or a smartphone. The first phase will run until 16 August, after which a Housing Census will be conducted from 17 August to 15 September, during which enumerators will collect information on houses and basic amenities.
Two districts—Charaideo and Sivasagar—are flood‑affected and will begin the exercise later than the rest of the state. The census will cover 35 districts, 166 sub‑districts and 26,236 villages. Training for 59 Master Trainers has already been completed. The self‑enumeration platform will be offered in 16 languages, and a toll‑free helpline (1855) is available for assistance. All data collected will be kept confidential and stored securely at the National Data Centre.
