India extends dual invitations to Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman

India's Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed that Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman received two separate invitations from New Delhi: one for a bilateral visit and another to attend the BRICS Summit in his capacity as the Chair of BIMSTEC.

Following Rahman's absence from the recent BRICS Summit in New Delhi, which had raised diplomatic questions, the two leaders engaged in a brief social media exchange. Rahman sent a birthday message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, wishing him good health, to which Modi responded by expressing his gratitude. This interaction is being viewed as a potential sign of softening diplomatic tensions between the two neighbors.

Bangladesh's State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Humaiun Kobir, noted that any official visit by Rahman will occur once both nations agree on a mutually acceptable timeframe. He emphasized that the relationship is a work in progress, with both sides working toward resetting ties and advancing regional cooperation, particularly as Bangladesh prepares to host the BIMSTEC Summit in 2027.
