India issues 100,000 crore rupee tender for 60 military transport aircraft
The Indian Ministry of Defence has issued a tender for the procurement of 60 multirole transport aircraft (MTA) for the Indian Air Force, a deal valued at approximately 100,000 crore rupees. The initiative aims to modernize the air force's transport capabilities and replace its aging fleet.
Under the 'Make in India' framework, the program is designed for significant local manufacturing. Approximately 20 percent of the aircraft will be inducted in a ready-to-fly condition, while the remaining 80 percent will be manufactured in India with over 60 percent indigenous content through joint ventures between Indian companies and global original equipment manufacturers.
Major Indian defense firms, including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Tata, Mahindra, and Adani, have been invited to participate. Strategic partnerships have already formed: Mahindra Defence is collaborating with Brazil's Embraer to offer the C-390 Millennium, while Tata is partnering with the American company Lockheed Martin to propose the C-130 aircraft.
