India Issues 2027 Central Government Holiday Calendar
The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (DoPT) has released the official holiday calendar for central government offices for the year 2027. The schedule, issued via Office Memorandum No. 12/2/2023‑JCA on 16 July 2026, sets out mandatory gazetted holidays such as Republic Day, Independence Day, Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday, Buddha Purnima, Dussehra, Guru Nanak’s Birthday, Id‑ul‑Fitr, Id‑ul‑Zuha, Muharram and Milad‑un‑Nabi, and specifies that employees may select two restricted holidays from a list of regional festivals.
For offices outside Delhi, state‑level Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committees will prepare a common holiday list, selecting three holidays from twelve regional festivals and placing the remaining nine in the restricted list. Dates for moon‑sighted festivals will be confirmed by the Ministry, and the full list is available on the National Portal of India.
